What's the difference between a
Bicycle I can buy from Wal-Mart
and one from Reidsville Bicycles?
Bicycles from Wal-Mart, KMART, or any Mass Merchandiser are manufactured to
be inexpensive. In order to meet the low cost requirement, overall quality is
reduced. Emphasis is placed on color and graphics to sell the bike. As an
example, Schwinn manufactures two lines of bikes. Their cheap bikes are for
Wal-Mart, and their Schwinn Select line for bicycle shops. Two lines of bikes that
are of totally different quality. Lastly, these bikes are built by "assemblers", the
same people who build the gas grills and wheelbarrows, not bike mechanics.
Bicycles sold at Reidsville Bicycles, or any bike shop are built for performance
and reliability. Consider the Schwinn bikes made 50 years ago that can still be
ridden today. Bicycle shop bikes are made from high quality metals, and
composites plus components that last and meet the demands of todays cyclists.
The final assembly, and adjustment of the bike is completed by qualified bike
technicians at the bike shop. These bikes are priced according to their features
and intended use. Prices start at approximately $325 and go up.

What's the right bike for me? I see so many customers who buy a bicycle, or are sold a bicycle that is not right for them. A customer was in my store who bought a $1000 bike from another bike shop and rode it once. He was so uncomfortable on the bike he couldn't ride it. I asked him why he bought that particular bike, he said "it was the kind of bike I rode when I was younger." Here's the key factors you need to consider when selecting a new bicycle before you buy it.
- The intended use of the bike - recreation, touring, road racing, trail riding, Mountain biking,
Commuting/transportation. A bike designed for racing makes a bad recreation bike.
- The geographic area you will be riding - is it flat, hilly, mountainous, etc. where will you will be
riding? A single speed bike in a hilly area is not going to work out!
- Your age, physical ability, and health.
At Reidsville Bicycles will answer these questions with you and sell you the correct bicycle.
